Microchip Registry, Health Booklet or App: Which Does What?
A microchip number in your phone, a veterinary booklet and a pet care app can refer to the same animal while serving different purposes. Keeping them distinct helps you update the right place when something changes.
The microchip registry connects identification to contact details
A chip provides an identification number, not a live GPS location. The relevant registry holds the linked information under its own procedures. AAHA supports identification and registration as parts of responsible pet care. Ask your veterinarian or registry how to confirm the number and update your contact details.
Adding the number to PokiPaw does not update an external registry. After a move or phone-number change, check that registry separately.
The veterinary health booklet records clinical entries
A booklet can contain vaccination and other health entries from the veterinary practice. Keep the original and ask the issuing practice about errors or missing information. A typed note you add yourself should not be mistaken for a veterinarian’s authenticated entry.
A travel document has a separate official role
The document needed for travel depends on the route and applicable rules. A domestic health booklet is not automatically an EU pet passport or an animal health certificate. Confirm requirements before booking; a photograph or app report may not satisfy official checks.
PokiPaw organises your day-to-day information
Use the app for records, supporting documents, treatment history and observations. A PDF can help communicate what you have recorded. It is a useful companion to the originals and official registrations, not an issuer of those documents.
Check the right place after a change
- New contact number: update the registry and relevant documents as required.
- New treatment: keep the veterinarian’s instructions and update your care records.
- Upcoming trip: check the official route requirements.
- New caregiver: review app access and agree responsibilities.
Is it enough that all information is on my phone? No. Keep required originals and maintain the relevant official records separately.
